| Process Simulators: Explore the ideal gas equation of state. Simulate a closed process involving a gas or a solid.
| Compressor/Turbine/Nozzle Simulators: RIAs that simulate a steady-state compressor, turbine, or nozzle. If the working fluid is a gas, select the IG (ideal gas) model; and, if phase change is a possibility, select the PC (phase change) model. After the RIA launches, select the working fluid, set the inlet conditions, exit pressure, and device properties and click Calculate to do a mass, energy, and entropy analysis. Most variables already set at reasonable default values. Plot how any input parameter such as the compression ratio affects a desired output variable, say, the compressor power.
| Gas Turbine Simulator: A RIA that simulates gas turbine cycles - ideal Brayton cycle, actual cycle, cycle with reheat, regneration, multi-state cycles. Graphically set the input parameters such as the inlet conditions, compression ratio, device efficiencies, etc., and the RIA calculates the thermal efficiency and other cycle parameters. It can also calculate equilibrium composition at any given state point. The combustion efficiency can be calculated quite accurately by comparing the fuel-air ratio in a thermal solution with the corresponding solution with chemistry (iteration with different fuel amounts is required to obtain the same turbine inlet temperature). Parametric study is quite simple - just select a parameter range and the desired result is plotted against the independent variable.

| Otto/Diesel Cycle Simulator: RIAs that simulate air-standard Otto and Diesel cycle. Graphically set the input parameters such as the inlet conditions, volumetric compression ratio, maximum temperature in the cycle, etc., and the RIA calculates the thermal efficiency and other cycle parameters.
| Reactor Simulator: A RIA that simulates a steady-state combustion chamber. You can choose fuel, oxidizer, air-fuel ratio, combustion chamber conditions, and probable species in the combustion products using an animation of the combustion chamber. The RIA will produce the equilibrium composition and heat transfer for a given exit temperature. For a given heat transfer, it will calculate composition and temperature at the exit. A parametric study can be conducted, where the RIA will plot the equilibrium flame temperature (and any species concentration) as the air-fuel ratio is changed over any desired range.
| Bomb calorimeter: A RIA that simulates a bomb calorimeter typically used in a thermodynamics laboratory for measuring the heat of combustion of a fuel. This RIA takes a student through a step by step process just as in the laboratory (status: needs better instructions and default behavior).
